Exciting Art Auction Happening At Sothebys
The Sotheby's auction house in London is scheduled to have its art auction on twentieth century British art in June. Sotheby's has been known to feature impeccable art auction finds and its online catalog features an extensive list of art pieces that will soon be turned up at auction.
While browsing the Sotheby's online catalog, there appeared a signed painting named South Façade of St. Jacques created by the artist Sickert. The said painting once appeared in London in 1971 and has been in Canada since it was purchased on that same period. It was said to be painted sometime in the 1900s after the artist fled to the town of Dieppe and stayed there for two years. The artist fell in love with the medieval beauty of the town, particularly its architecture, which became the main subject of most of his works.
The Sotheby's catalog has also listed another painting of Sickert that he finished in Venice, Italy while he was staying there together with his wife. Hearsays have it that the couple has been experiencing marital problems and their trip to Venice was said to have rekindled their marriage. Sotheby's also has many other pieces of Sickert's work that will be turned up for auction.
The catalog also listed that Sotheby's will be auctioning off a watercolor painting created by artist Gwen John. Cats have been one of John's favorite subjects and she also usually paints images of seated women. She has also been known to paint the same portrait many times over just like the artist Monet.
Thunder in the Mountains, another magnificent watercolor painting created by artist James Dickson Innes is another must see at the Sotheby's auction event. The watercolor art piece was painted in 1910 in the breathtaking mountains of North Wales. Artist John Piper's amazing watercolor painting entitled Broomswade is an art piece to die for. The person selling this painting has been its only owner, in which he directly bought it from John Piper in 1966. William Turnbull's marvelous painting is another piece that you might want to bid.
Sotheby's will also have Poppies by artist Ivon Hithchens on its auction block. This painting is so splendidly done that you can expect its starting bid to be set at a high price.
Another painting that will be held for auction at Sotheby's is a captivating oil painting entitled Landscape Near Lyons by the artist Sir Matthew Smith. This 1922 painting has a still, yet brimming life of beautiful flowers on the reverse.
Those who have a collection of pencil drawings may fall in love with the 1925 pencil art piece entitled Flower in a Glass Vase by the artist Christopher Wood. This pencil art will go well with your other still life pieces. You can expect this item to go at the auction for about twelve thousand dollars. Sotheby's will also have many other fantastic pencil art items to be held for auction.
With Sotheby's art auctions always well attended, it may no longer come as a surprise that this upcoming auction event will yet turn out to be another booming success. So if you plan on bidding a particular piece of art item featured on the auction block, expect an exciting bidding war to occur. Who knows, you may just be the one to blow the bid over and win what you truly deserve.
